Learn More About Different Warranty Options

A vehicle may have two different types of warranties. One is referred to as a powertrain warranty while the other is referred to as a bumper-to-bumper warranty. The powertrain warranty generally covers the engine, transmission and other parts that are used to propel the vehicle. The bumper-to-bumper warranty covers the remaining portions of the car.

In some cases, a dealer may only provide a powertrain warranty or a bumper-to-bumper warranty. As a general rule, the powertrain warranty may be more valuable because it covers repairs to what are generally the most expensive parts of a vehicle to fix. It may also be a good idea to get an extended bumper-to-bumper or powertrain warranty if an original warranty is not available.
